These Original Russian Oil paintings are from the Pre-Glasnost period of Russia, or during the former USSR - SOVIET UNION communist period when it was generally considered illegal to paint professionally unless state sponsored or in authorized propaganda subject matter...

These exquisite works of Art represent the determination and perseverance of the Human Spirit to overcome and create great works of Art in-spite of looming danger and opposition.

These pieces were painted by various known and unknown Artists from throughout Russia and the USSR, and were hidden away from public view for many years until the collapse of the Soviet Union and the opening up of the Russian culture in about 1989 -

know as " GLASNOST ".

Originally painted from the 1950s through the1970s.  Many of these pieces have a post date of 1987-88 painted or written on them due to the fact that any Art created prior to that date would have been considered national treasure of Russia and illegal to export.

 

These pieces were collected by an expatriate of Russia and the USSR, and were hand picked from various regions and cities throughout Russia, then brought to America in the early1990s.

All hand signed and stamped with the Original USSR stamp of exportation... These pieces vary in size and sub-straight, and were painted on whatever materials were available to the Artist at the time, such as Burlap, Cardboard Panel, Linen and Canvas. The raw nature and simplicity of theses pieces add to the beauty and originality of the Art.

 

These are truly amazing works of Art and represent a period in time and history that will never be repeated again.
